Opening up infrastructural reports in public transport

The GVB GIS reports-tool is developed by:

GVB is Amsterdam’s public transport company, with over 750.000 passengers every day. One of the key elements in making things run smoothly every day? The drivers who make sure every bus and tram gets to its destination safely and on time. They take pride in their work and care greatly about their working conditions (the city’s infrastructure) and the safety and comfort of their passengers.

Colleagues behind the scenes at GVB lay the foundation for a smooth organisation, as well as the flow of public transport in Amsterdam. Together with external infrastructural authorities they are responsible for repairs, changes and construction on public transport routes in Amsterdam. They often receive smaller suggestions on improvements, early signs of needed maintenance and general questions about repairs, changes and construction from the drivers.

Before having this application, communication between drivers and GVB’s policy officers around these smaller, but still important issues was scattered, time consuming and lacking transparency for both parties.

Now there is an open en fast way for everyone to communicate about these issues. The application provides both parties with the means to stay updated about the work done and each other’s feedback.

The following pictures provide an overview of the possibilities of the application.

Comments & votes. Every report is open and accessible for GVB personnel. It is also possible to vote for a report, or to leave a comment in the comment section of the report. Through this, it is possible to measure the importance of an issue for the drivers and act accordingly.

Making a report. Reporters are encouraged to give as much information as possible about the situation, including pictures. This makes processing the report easier and quick. Notifications are automatically send by the system.

E-mails. The system behind the report-tool is designed to keep everyone involved with the report informed about its progress. After making the initial report, the completion can be entirely handled through email.

Backend. Especially designed to provide indepth information about statistics, finding specific reports and managing the report-tools frontend, it provides the administrators with an ergonimic tool to keep on top of things.
